  • The Bravo Fleet Command Council, BFA Changes and Community Work Groups

Bravo Fleet has always prided itself in being a pioneer in Star Trek simming. As we look towards the future, we are keenly aware of the need to adapt and respond to the needs of our rich and diverse community. To this end, rather than appoint a new Bravo Fleet Commanding Officer at this time, we have chosen to take several steps we believe will best allow us to respond quickly and effectively to these needs.

First off, for a period ending December 31, 2017, instead of Bravo Fleet Commanding and Executive Officers, the Admiralty has chosen to appoint a Bravo Fleet Command Council ("BFCC") comprised of the last three Bravo Fleet Executive Officers: aio (ADM Hars Darax), Tom (ADM Anatole Lazarus) and myself (ADM Allison Reyes). Together, the BFCC will exercise the powers formerly granted to the Bravo Fleet Commanding Officer. Additionally, the Admiralty has extended to the BFCC the temporary right to approve, by unanimous consent, changes to the Fleet services, canon and by-laws. The intent of this is to allow for swift and necessary changes to the rules and operations of the Fleet in order to respond to the needs of the community, with safeguards in place to prevent abuse. At the end of this period, the Admiralty will assess the effectiveness of this governance model and choose whether to keep it or return to the model of Bravo Fleet Commanding and Executive Officers.

Secondly, the Admiralty has taken a look at several procedural rules that have impeded past progress and approved changes to improve them. Amendments will be made to the Constitution such that (a) it is made clear that all members of the Admiralty, not just the chair, may start a vote, (b) all members of the Admiralty, not just the chair, will be able to nominate candidates for open Admiralty positions, and (c) terms of one year, term limits of three years, and veto and replacement procedures for the BFCC are established. In addition, we are continuing to look at our governance model in order to figure out what other tweaks may enable us to serve the community more effectively.

Thirdly, the Admiralty is currently in the process of formulating a plan around work groups open to all members of the Bravo Fleet community that will collaboratively work on and develop changes to the rules, canon, player experience, community outreach and more. We should have more specifics on this in the next few days.

In closing, aio, Tom and I look forward to serving in this new capacity as the Bravo Fleet Command Council for the coming year, helping enable the community to define the future of this Fleet which we all so proudly call home. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to cmd@bravofleet.org.
